Patch: The future of journalism?

News keeps changing — not just the events but the medium itself. A market that was once broad and general now aims to become specific and personal, and the growing Patch.com news platform appears poised to lead the charge.

From just 100 “hyperlocal” news sites mostly on the East Coast in August, the AOL product aims to grow more than five times that size and spread from coast to coast by year’s end to become the largest hirer of full-time journalists in the United States.

Kurt Greenbaum and Holly Edgell are the regional editors for Patch’s expansion in St. Louis and the special guests for SPJ’s monthly luncheon in October. They will talk about Patch’s development and the challenges involved in riding journalism’s new wave, and answer your questions at noon Thursday, Oct. 14, at Lucas Park Grille, in downtown St. Louis.

Lunch is $10 for SPJ members, $12 for non-members. Please call David Sheets at 314-971-0073 to reserve a seat. We look forward to seeing you there.
