The St. Louis Chapter of the SPJ will have their next Happy Hour on Thursday April 26, 2007 from 6pm to 8pm at The Royale. Weather permitting, we’ll be on the patio! See you there!

Region 7 Spring Conference a Huge Success

The Region 7 spring conference, hosted by your St. Louis SPJ chapter, was a huge success. We had 81 registrants and more than 100 total attendees (including speakers and volunteers). We honored dozens of student journalists in the regional Mark of Excellence awards, we heard thought-provoking keynote addresses from Bill Lueders and Ray Hartmann, and we packed the Crowne Plaza’s conference rooms for a dozen other professional-development sessions. We also showed our guests a good time at the Carondelet Grille and the City Museum, and raised more than $400 through the silent auction and book sales for the SPJ Legal Defense Fund.

Most importantly, we showed the rest of SPJ that the St. Louis chapter is revitalized and ready to play a leading role in the organization. We’ve already received words of praise from two national board members who were in attendance (President-elect Clint Brewer and Regional Director Ron Sylvester).

At least one speaker, Mike Anderson of StlMedia.net, has posted his conference presentation on the Web. SPJ Regional Conference This Week, Register On-Site
